f) [ ln ] - There are some variables in the KAM where observations for one or a few countries are very high compared to observations for most other countries. Thus, a graphical representation of these observations does not properly allow for showing differences between observations for the bulk of the countries. In order to allow for a better graphical representation of such variables, they have been transformed by taking natural logarithms (shown in brackets as ln). This transformation compresses the values of the outlying observations more than the values of the lower observations, and thus allows for better graphical presentations, although it needs to be kept in mind that the variables have been transformed.
